چکیده

Towards Anywhere Augmentation Stephen DiVerdi For Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to experience wide-spread adoption, the barrier to entry must be reduced significantly. In particular, setup costs of new systems in new environments are prohibitive for high-fidelity augmentation. The goal of this thesis is to take first steps towards an overall reduction in these costs. The main AR challenges that I focus on in this thesis are realistic lighting of virtual geometry, registration of polygons with the scene, tracking a user in a mobile context, creation of 3D annotations, and acquisition of the scene lighting environment. Each of these challenges is a fundamental component of many AR systems that commonly requires laborious setup in new environments. The contributions presented in this thesis directly address these challenges, lowering the startup costs. My first contribution is to enable more realistic lighting in AR applications by dynamically measuring the lighting environment to accurately shade virtual objects, and to use the video image to facilitate application of virtual light sources to dynamic physical geometry. Realistic lighting also depends on accurate reg-

"Anywhere Augmentation": Towards Mobile Augmented Reality in Unprepared Environments

We introduce the term " Anywhere Augmentation " to refer to the idea of linking location-specific computing services with the physical world, making them readily and directly available in any situation and location. This chapter presents a novel approach to " Anywhere Augmentation " based on efficient human input for wearable computing and augmented reality (AR). Current mobile and wearable com...

Periareolar Extra-Glandular Breast Augmentation

BACKGROUND Breast augmentation is the most frequent procedure performed according to the 2009 Quick Facts report of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This study presents the periareolar extra-glandular breast augmentation. METHODS From 2004 to 2010 among 32 female patients, peri-areolar incision was performed for breast augmentation. Dissection was performed in subcutaneous plane tow...

Capsular Weakness around Breast Implant: A Non-Recognized Complication

Capsular contraction is a frequent complication following breast augmentation. On the other hand, capsular weakness, a not widely recognized complication, may occur around the implant. A weak capsule allows the migration of the prosthesis to the lateral region of the thoracic region or inferiorly, towards the abdomen, due to gravitational forces. The cause of capsular weakness remains unresolve...
